Davide Benetello appointed member of new IOC Steering Committee for Athlete Charter PDF Imprimare Email

    WKF Athletes Commission chairman Davide Benetello has been selected to be part of the newly created Steering Committee for Athlete Charter of Right and Responsibilities of the International Olympic Committee. Mr. Benetello, who is also a member of WKF Executive Committee, will represent Karate in the working group aiming to reinforce the main key themes outlined in the Athlete Charter.

    The decision to include the former Karate World Champion in the committee was taken during the 8th edition of the IOC International Athletes’ Forum which was held in Lausanne in November. The composition of the Steering Committee comprised of athletes representatives from all of the five Continental Associations, ten International Federations, the International Paralympic Committee, the World Olympians Association and three IOC AC Members.

WKF hosts key strategic meetings in Paris PDF Imprimare Email

   World Karate Federation stakeholders were gathered in Paris this past week to discuss crucial issues concerning Karate’s path to its Olympic debut and to set the roadmap of the sport for its momentous challenges ahead. 

    The strategic meetings were hosted at the French Karate Federation headquarters in Paris and welcomed members of the Executive Bureau, the WKF Olympic Planning Commission, the WKF Rules Commission and the presidents of all Continental Federations. The gatherings were chaired by WKF President Antonio Espinós

     Among the many points of the agenda, attendees received an update on the timetable, documentation and prospective calendar of action in the path to the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018 and the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. In this regard, the qualification system for Buenos Aires 2018 was presented, and an initial plan of the pathway to qualify for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 was also analysed. Different proposals for the qualification tournaments for both Buenos Aires 2018 and Tokyo 2020 were discussed.

The World Karate Day is to recognize the inclusion of the Karate 2020 sport in the Olympic Program in Tokyo and to promote a permanent admission to the Olympic family.

This is celebrated with a seminar offering 14 areas with a regional, national and international top instructor team and world champions of the WKF. Whether it is for beginners or advanced, children or adults, elderly or disabled people, there is a program for everyone on this day.

Another Highlight of this day:

From a one-hour competition Germany vs. World Selection to a spectacular Kata shows and the unique performance "Stravinsky and Karate" we show all facets of our martial arts and are thus a strong sign for the application for the Olympic Games 2024.

In addition to the karate elite from Germany and the whole world, numerous high-ranking personalities from sports and politics are also expected. In addition to Dr. Thomas Bach, IOC President, Tegla Loroupe, UNHCR Ambassador and Woman of the Year in the UN, has also announced her coming.

KWU ROMANIA & WKO ROMANIA – Agreement of cooperation PDF Imprimare Email

    By occasion Kumite Camp that took place at Oradea in the period 17 to 19 February 2017, where was attended by over 150 karatekas, was established a cooperation agreement between KWU Romania and WKO Shinkyokushin Romania – Federatia Romana de Karate Kyokushin.

Federatia Romana de Karate Kyokushin is the only Romanian Federation of Kyokushin Karate recognized by the Government and the Ministry of Sport.

At the end of the camp held a meeting to establish cooperation agreement, we discussed about organizing in July a common Championship qualifying for the 3rd KWU World Championship 2017 – Tokyo, Japan and a good collaboration for the future!
