Jeļena Ostapenko (born 8 June 1997 in Riga) is a Latvian tennis player. She has won seven singles and eight doubles titles on the ITF tour in her career, and also won the Junior singles event at the 2014 Wimbledon Championships. On 30 January 2017, she reached her best singles ranking of world number 33 in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles rankings, and later peaked at world number 33 in the WTA doubles rankings on 1 May 2017. After turning pro, Ostapenko was initially coached by her mother, Jeļena Jakovļeva, while her father, Jevgeņijs, served as her fitness coach. She later began training with Anabel Medina Garrigues. An aggressive player with powerful strokes on both sides, Ostapenko is known for a highly offensive playing style, including her inside-out groundstrokes and tendency to aim for the lines. At the 2017 French Open, she became the first woman from Latvia to reach a Grand Slam semifinal and final in the Open Era.
